Engagement rings recommended for your career

When it comes to engagement ring shopping, one of the last things on your mind for consideration is you or your partner’s day job. Instead, your focus is on the many engagement rings and the countless options available. We don’t blame you – the world of engagement rings is truly magical!

But in reality, if you will be wearing the ring, your career should be a significant factor when looking for the perfect ring! As it is generally worn every day, you will want a ring that suits you or your partner’s day-to-day life, including the environment and tasks of a job role.

But what should you be looking for in a ring regarding a particular career? We’ve got a few engagement ring ideas depending on the different industries to help you select a suitable design for you or your partner.

      Teacher

oval cut engagement ringsAre you a teacher? Or do you work in childcare? Both jobs can be incredibly hands-on and require a lot of movement. This makes it essential you think wisely when going for a particular diamond cut.

You need to think practical and efficient. You want to avoid diamond cuts that are likely to get caught and damaged or potentially scratched. This is especially relevant when working with little kids and teaching practical classes such as PE or Textiles.

Diamond cuts that would be well suited for a teacher include the round brilliant diamond or oval cut engagement rings. The lack of sharp corners and points will deter any chances of snagging, making them a practical choice. Low settings are also a smart move.

      Hairdresser and Beauticians

Working in the beauty industry can be a luxurious but messy space. Frequent contact with lotions, products and chemicals, in general, can be a danger to jewellery, especially engagement rings. That is why before doing makeup, giving facials or dying hair, many beauticians and hairdressers decide to remove their ring to avoid deterioration in the ring quality.

However, some general tasks can allow a ring to still be worn. While we recommend having a space and secure spot to store your ring during the hands-on activities, some ring designs work better for these jobs.

For example, a bezzle set diamond is well suited for hairdressers as its heightened security makes it less likely to be damaged and tangled. This would also be fitting for those who frequently offer other beauty services.

      Tradie and Construction Worker

Another reason diamond engagement rings are so popular is because of the flexibility and variety the stone offers. When it comes to diamonds, there will be a choice for all budgets.

When determining a diamond’s quality, there is a criterion it is judged by called the 4C’s – the cut, colour, clarity and carat weight. The higher the ranking for these qualities will impact the price of a diamond.

However, it isn’t always easy to separate a high-quality diamond from an average one – but the price difference can be staggeringly significant. This means countless diamond rankings are available, making it cater to all budgets.

There are also plenty of diamond cuts available on the market to choose from. There is a variety to select from with a wide range of diamond shapes, including emerald, round, pear and oval cut engagement rings. With all the different shape options, you can certainly find a style to suit your taste and preferences.

      Medical Professional

In the medical field, you are often required to wear protective gear, including gloves, taking them on and off all day long. This makes it essential you have a ring that can withstand a glove, not ripping it or getting caught or damaged by it.

When looking at engagement rings, try going for a low-raised setting, such as a cathedral-style band.  This creates a smooth and sturdy design that secures the ring at the stem and basket, resulting in the ring sitting flush on the beholder’s hand.

Another setting to consider is channel set diamonds, as they are flush with the stones fitted next to each other without prongs. This means such rings are less likely to get caught on medical gloves. In addition to this, it is easier to clean with no space for dirt and germs, making it incredibly practical!

      Office Worker

In a low-risk environment such as an office, the threats are low. This means there aren’t many diamond cuts to be concerned about. As a real estate agent or someone in finance or sales, you can also feel comfortable going for a raised setting that is elevated on the finger.

However, if you choose a big diamond and fancy cut, we recommend considering extra strength with a split shank band. This option provides additional support by connecting the diamond in two places on either side, rather than relying on one band.

The additional strand of the shank helps secure your diamond. This can be necessary when fiddling around the office and excessively typing for much of your day.

      Police or Security

If you constantly find yourself in risky situations that can be dangerous, a subtle design might be necessary. This can be relevant to those in the police force or working in security.

A discreet ring will go under the radar and be less problematic when you need to get physical. Try ditching any large diamonds or stones and go for a simple, delicate design like a solitaire setting.

A solitaire engagement ring means there is only one diamond. Having several diamonds featured on a ring or used in a halo or pavé setting increases the chances of a diamond falling. Not to mention, it can stir attention. You want to limit this by keeping it simple.

Have a certain ring in mind but not sure if it will fit a particular career? These are only recommendations for the most compatible designs. However, don’t let that turn you away from your dream ring! It doesn’t mean you can’t wear other designs; it might just mean more restrictions when in the workplace. But if you love your ring, any hurdles or taking off your ring more often will be worth it!
